E-waste disposal in Perth
In Western Australia, electronics cannot go in any kerbside bin. Regulated e-waste, meaning screens, computers, printers, whitegoods, fridges, air conditioners and loose batteries, has been banned from WA landfill since 1 July 2024. Take it to an e-waste drop-off, free at most council and retailer sites. Wipe every device before it leaves the house.
What do I do with electronics & screens in WA?

Can I put electronics in the bin in WA?
No. Since 1 July 2024, Western Australia bans regulated e-waste from landfill, so screens, computers, printers, whitegoods, fridges, air conditioners and loose batteries cannot go in the red, yellow or FOGO bins. Even before the ban, the lithium cells inside old devices were a fire risk in collection trucks.
Where can I drop off e-waste in Perth?
Most Perth councils run a free e-waste drop-off at their transfer station or recycling centre, and some retailers take back small electronics. Use Recycle Right's find-my-nearest search (recycleright.wa.gov.au) for your suburb, and ring ahead for whitegoods and fridges, which some sites limit.
Does e-waste disposal cost anything in WA?
For households, drop-off is free at most WA council and retailer sites. You pay only if you want it collected from the house: a paid pickup, or a retailer take-back when a new appliance is delivered.
What should I do before I get rid of a phone or laptop?
