Deceased estate and house clearance in Sydney
A Sydney clearance costs less when it happens in stages. Valuables and paperwork out first. Then Vinnies NSW or Salvos take the sellable furniture, subject to assessment. Then the chemicals go to a Community Recycling Centre. A skip suits a family with time, a clearance team suits a deadline.

What should I do first when clearing a deceased estate in NSW?
Empty the house of paperwork, jewellery, cash and keys before anyone else goes in, and photograph each room as it stands. Clearances move quickly and nobody opens tins or checks the backs of drawers. Set the hazardous items aside at the same time, because they need their own route.
Will a charity clear a house for free in Sydney?
No. A charity takes the sellable part, which shrinks the paid job. Vinnies NSW accepts a furniture donation collection request, though it assesses the items first and the driver can still decline on the day, and it will not take cots, prams, highchairs, car seats or oversized furniture. Salvos Stores and Anglicare also collect or accept donations.
What do I do with the chemicals and paint in the shed?
Set them aside for a Community Recycling Centre, which is free, permanent and takes paint, oils, batteries, gas bottles, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and fluoro tubes in household quantities, a guide of 20 litres or 20 kilograms per waste type per visit. Household cleaners, pool and hobby chemicals and pesticides need a Household Chemical CleanOut event instead.
Skip bin or clearance team?
A skip for a week is cheaper if the family can do the sorting and lifting. A clearance team costs more, comes with people and a truck, and leaves the house empty against a settlement or tenancy deadline. Before either, check your council's bulky clean-up: the NSW EPA's 2024-25 survey counted 75 councils offering one.
