Where can I take old paint in the Northern Territory?
Paintback. It states it is currently operating throughout all states and territories in Australia, with over 85 per cent of the population a short drive from a drop-off location. It accepts a maximum of 100 litres per visit, in containers of up to 20 litres. Can I put paint tins in the bin in the NT?
Only when the paint inside is water-based and has dried solid. Take the lid off, leave the tin somewhere safe and out of reach until it hardens, then the tin goes in general waste where your Northern Territory council allows it. Wet paint, oil-based paint and solvents never go in a bin, whatever state the tin is in.
What do I do with pool chemicals, pesticides or an unlabelled bottle in the NT?
The Northern Territory has no Territory-wide household chemical collection program, so this is a council question: ask your council or transfer station what its waste facility takes. Keep everything in its original container, never mix two chemicals, and never tip anything out to empty a bottle. Why can't it go down the drain?
A stormwater drain is not connected to a treatment plant. What goes into one reaches the creek, the harbour or the sea exactly as it went in. The sewer is no answer either, because it is not built to treat solvents or pesticides. Nothing goes down a drain, into a stormwater grate, or onto the ground to soak away.
