Mattress Recycling Australia offers a bookable collection across the state. Country and regional residents are advised to contact their local council. Soft Landing does not operate in South Australia.
Will a charity take used furniture in SA?
Sound, clean, resellable pieces, yes. Goodwill, run by Uniting Communities, takes clothing, homewares, furniture, toys and books at its Adelaide, Blackwood and Salisbury stores, and will arrange collection of larger items, though it cannot always collect furniture. Vinnies SA and Salvos Stores also accept donated goods. Goodwill says over 80 per cent of what it is given cannot be sold, so donate only what you would buy.
What can go in a hard waste collection in SA?
It depends on your council, but Which Bin SA lists what a council may accept: furniture, mattresses, whitegoods, fridges and freezers with the doors removed, floor coverings, lawn mowers with the petrol tank emptied, gym equipment, small scrap metal and timber offcuts. Two things are never accepted anywhere in SA: batteries, and CO2 cylinders such as SodaStream canisters, which can explode under pressure.
